Ghosts in the Suicide Forest – Part 9

“So?” Alice leaned forward. “What happened?”

“I checked the letter again. It had changed to a single sheet that read, ‘Thank you. I am going to look for a new job. Maybe we’ll try Europe.”

Alice frowned. “Are you certain you’re alone here?”

“You think someone switched the letters?” asked Maiv.

“That’s the most logical explanation.”

“I reckon. But no, there was no one to change things like that. There were only the ghosts. Or a ghost.” Maiv stared off at the forest thoughtfully. “I hunted for a long time. I mapped the forest, noting the locations of last-moments shrines, hidden cameras, and the speaker system. I was so angry with those whispering voices, blaming them for Marco’s death and the deaths of so many others.”

Alice shivered. “Are there really ghosts?”

“Yes and no.”
